Tarangire – Ngorongoro Crater – Serengeti – Lake Manyara

TEMBO is the swahili word which means ELEPHANT and we decide to call  this tour Tembo because there are possibilities to see Elephants on your game drives. The tour will be taking you to Tarangire National Park, the world famous Ngorongoro Crater, the heart of wildlife in Africa Serengeti National Park and Lake Manyara National Park.

 Day 1: Arrived at JRO Airport

After you arrive JRO Airport , you will meet your guide who will take you to Arusha where you will stay overnight. On the way there will be the option to visit Lake Duluti – a  crater lake in the shadow of Mount Meru .  Lake Duluti was formed inside a volcanic crater and has water throughout the year, mainly from groundwater and seasonal rainfall, here you can enjoy your afternoon/evening by having drinks before driving to your hotel or lodge in Arusha.

 Day 2: Arusha – Tarangire National Park   

In the morning we start our safari to Tarangire National Park, the drive will take almost 2 hours. The park is roughly the size of Luxemburg and covers an area of about 2,650 km². Bush Savannah, seasonal swamps and giant baobab trees make up the landscape of this nature reserve and the park is probably one of the best places in East Africa to see elephants. From the open roof of the safari vehicle {4×4} you will be able to watch them and absorb the landscape. Apart from elephants, the park is also home to Masai giraffes, various gazelles, antelopes, buffaloes, lions, leopards, baboons, and more than 500 types of birds. After an extensive game drive you will leave the park in the afternoon and drive to the Karatu area where your hotel or lodge will be located.

 Day 3: Karatu – Ngorongoro Crater — Serengeti Plains  

After breakfast we head towards the Serengeti National Park, via the beautiful high lying farmland of Karatu and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area but before that we drive into the crater. Inside the world’s biggest caldera you will see a diversity of wildlife ranging from black rhinos, grant’s and thomson’s gazelles, big prides of lions, leopards, zebras, elephants, buffaloes, spotted hyenas, rare wild dogs, impalas and more antelopes, also you can see a lot of flamingos, ostriches, ibis and more than 500 types of birds. After an extensive game drive and picnic in the crater leaving the highlands behind, we descend into the heart of wild Africa – the Serengeti National Park – with its endless plains, rolling into the distance as far as the eye can see then while the sun set we will be approaching the lodge at the middle of Serengeti National Park for dinner and overnight.

 Day 4: Serengeti National Park 

Be one of only a few fortunate people to glide in a Hot Air Balloon over the Serengeti Plains (available at supplementary cost by pre-arrangement). Floating silently above the awakening bush, while spotting wildlife and enjoying the amazing scenery of Africa, across rivers and an amazing landscape of Serengeti. Serengeti National Park is known for its unique really sights, sounds and smells with stunning scenery, ever changing light and entertaining wildlife of Africa. In this park the animals don’t work on any schedule so we may find lions, leopards, elephants, zebras, cheetahs on grass plains, hippos, antelopes, and many species of birds and reptiles during our game drive.

 Day 5: Serengeti National Park 

Today we will enjoy a day-long full game drive in the heart of african wildlife. During the short rain season in November and December the herds move from the hills in the North to the plains in the South. During the longer rain season from April to June they return up North. As the migration is completely dependent on the yearly rainfalls, the location of the herds may vary year to year but Samora Explorers guide will know where to locate the animals and where to see them best so as you can have a great adventure of your lifetime.

 Day 6: Serengeti — Ngorongoro — Karatu  

After the sunrise you will enjoy your breakfast at the lodge or camp before you  depart to Ngorongoro Conservation Area.  We will stopover at Olduvai Gorge, boasting with a history dating back to the dawn of time [ optional ] . It was here, that the anthropologists Drs. Lois and Mary Leakey discovered the skulls of ‘Nutcracker Man’ and ‘Handyman’, both very significant links in the chain of human evolution.

 Day 7: Lake Manyara  

After the breakfast we will be driving to the paradise of the primates and aquatic birds. Lake Manyara National Park offers breathtaking views and a large variety of habitats. Acacia woodlands, water forests, baobab strewn cliffs, algae-streaked hot springs, swamps and the lake itself. And thanks to this, the small park is able to support a large number of animal species and incredible bird life. Manyara has the largest concentration of baboons anywhere in the world and the lions here are also known for their tree climbing.  After the game viewing in Lake Manyara National Park we drive to Arusha / Kilimanjaro Airport to Zanzibar.
